Dear Parents,

Well done to our Year 6 children on completion of their SAT tests

A very special well done to everyone who supported our Year 6 children who remained very focussed and have all worked incredibly hard this week. Thank you to the children, their parents and the staff team who have worked with such commitment to help the children to do their best. Thank you to all the other children in school who helped us to maintain a calm and quiet working environment. It has been a fantastic team effort.

Jazz dancing

We celebrated the end of tests as Class 4 ‘let their hair down’ with some great Jazz dancing today. This was funded by our Sainsbury’s vouchers from last year. We will be counting this year’s soon so please send any vouchers into school asap. Many of our playground toys are funded with these.

Year 2 Assessment

We are required to assess our Y2 children during the month of May. Children will complete these tests as normal classroom activities with their own teacher and teaching assistant. We mark these in school and the outcome supports our own teacher assessment information which is reported in each child’s Annual Report. There are tests in Reading Comprehension and Maths and the children have already practised similar activities as part of their regular work in class. Please have a word with Miss Jenkins if you have any concerns.

Sporting Congratulations

Cricket – our Y5/6 team finished in 5th place out of 15 teams in the area tournament a few weeks ago. More recently our Y3/4 team finished in 3rd place.

Tennis –our Y5/6 team finished in 2nd place and our Y3/4 team finished in 1st place.

We are all enjoying our PE and sport outside with the warmer weather. Classes 1 and 2 have football on Monday afternoons and Classes 3 and 4 are enjoying cricket, tennis and rounders. At break times we are playing tennis and cricket and having fun on the field and racing on our track.

Swimming – lessons will be as normal next week.

Congratulations to Jack Tranmer – winner of the North Yorkshire Armed Forces Day Badge Design Competition

At our Heroes Club for service pupils and their friends each Friday lunchtime we entered the North Yorkshire Armed Forces Day 2017 badge design competition.

We are delighted that Jack Tranmer in Year 6 has won the competition. Jack’s design will be made into the 2017 Armed Forces Day pin badge for North Yorkshire. This is sold to raise money for the Royal British Legion and service families.

Friends of the School – Tesco ‘Bags of Help’ fundraising success!

Now we need your support

The redevelopment of our outdoor classroom for Classes 1 and 2 has been shortlisted and is now at public vote in the Catterick Tesco store for May and June. Please encourage all your family, friends and neighbours to vote for our school project with their tokens and help us to raise more money for our school.

Depending on how many votes we receive in tokens we will be awarded: £5,000, £3,000 or £1,000. Every token counts!

Parish News- Open2All Service this Sunday 14th May at 3pm at St Mary’s Church, Bolton-on-Swale.

Rev Yvonne would like to invite everyone to this child friendly service. There will be food, crafts and Bible stories. Also an opportunity for children and adults to do some acting in the style of our Monday morning ‘Open the Book’ worship in school.

Safeguarding at the end of the school day

We have asked the children to ensure they go straight to their parents/carers when they come out of school. We have also reminded them to go to the teacher on duty at the school gate and to remain there until collected if they can’t find their parent. Classes 1 and 2 come out of their own gate so please stand clearly in this area when collecting them. Please inform us if your child is going home with someone different.

Thank you to parents of our older children if you have completed forms to walk home alone. Thank you also for taking care when parking; particularly keeping the school gate clear.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any queries.

Yours sincerely,

Nicola Dobson
