Well done to our Year 6 children on completion of their SAT tests
A very special well done to everyone who supported our Year 6 children who remained very focussed and have all worked incredibly hard this week. Thank you to the children, their parents and the staff team who have worked with such commitment to help the children to do their best. Thank you to all the other children in school who helped us to maintain a calm and quiet working environment. It has been a fantastic team effort.
We celebrated the end of tests as KS2 children ‘let their hair down’ with some great Jazz dancing today. This was funded by our Sainsbury’s vouchers from last year. We will be counting this year’s soon so please send any vouchers into school asap. Many of our playground toys are funded with these.
Confirmation and First Holy Communion Congratulations
We have celebrated with Darragh Lyons who took his First Holy Communion and Harriet White and Emilie Wright who were confirmed by Bishop James, all last weekend.
In our Collective Worship next week we will celebrate Pentecost. There is more information on the Archbishop of Canterbury’s wave of prayer for evangelism at: www.thykingdom.co.uk/
Additional Staffing in school
Whilst we have no significant staffing changes planned in school we do have regular additional support and you will meet these staff in school. Mrs Wiseman is working as a Teaching Assistant in Class1; Mrs Moodie is providing some supply teaching cover in Classes 1 and 2; Mrs Rutland provides some additional Teaching Assistant cover; Mrs Wright continues to work as a supply teacher.
Mrs Jones–as you may have heard… Mrs Jones has broken her ankle. Whilst she is still able to teach, there have been some adjustments made to make this possible. She will not be out in the playground at the beginning and end of the day; please speak to another member of staff or come into school/phone or email and she is happy to help. Lessons such as PE will be taken by other teaching staff.
Year 2 Assessment
We are required to assess our Y2 children during the month of May. Children will complete these tests as normal classroom activities with their own teacher and teaching assistant. We mark these in school and the outcome supports our own teacher assessment information which is reported in each child’s Annual Report. There are tests in Reading Comprehension and Maths and the children have already practised similar activities as part of their regular work in class. Please have a word with Miss Jenkins if you have any concerns.
Year 1 Phonics Screening
We are required to screen all our Y1 children in June on their knowledge of phonics (letter sounds). This happens as part of the children’s normal classroom activities and lessons with their own class teachers. They are scored out of 40 and this data is shared with you in their Annual Reports. If you would like any more information on their phonics learning or have any concerns please speak to Mrs Reynolds or Miss Jenkins. The teachers will be operating an open classroom drop-in after school on Wednesday 25th May till 4.30pm to answer any questions. Our teachers are always happy to see you at other times by arrangement.
School Group/Class Photographs
The proofs of the Group/Class photographs have been sent home today. Our normal display samples are being sent separately and should be here shortly. We will put them in the children’s entrance area for viewing. You should have received a sample of any group your child is in. If you would like to order any of these please return your form with payment to school by Monday 23rdMay. This will enable us to send the school order off before half term. Any orders after this date will have to be sent by you directly and will also incur a late order fee.
