Dear Parents,

Congratulations to Class 1 on their excellent Class Assembly

Thank you to all parents and carers who came to support the children of Class 1 with their class assembly yesterday. We were all so impressed with their confident speaking skills, their drama, music and retelling of the story of ‘Goldilocks and the three bears’ complete with ‘special sound effects’. We learnt more about their writing and number work and enjoyed a visit to their classroom afterwards.

Class 4 visiting the Science laboratory at Richmond School

Class 4 had a fascinating morning learning more about chemical changes with the science staff at Richmond School. They all enjoyed the real laboratory experience.

Parent Teacher Consultation Appointments

These take place for all children after half term on either Wednesday 1st March or Thursday 2nd March from 3.45-6.30pm. Please sign up in the office entrance area or ring/email the office to make an appointment. There will be an opportunity to see your child’s work and discuss their progress and learning targets with their class teacher.

Statutory Assessments

As a school we are required to report assessment data for children at key points in their schooling: end of Reception year; Y1 Phonics; end of Y2 year; end of Y6. Assessment is linked to key targets which the children are required to achieve to reach the ‘expected’ level. Class teachers are sending activities home which will help your child achieve these targets. Teachers will discuss these at parent’s evening.

World Book Day Friday 3rd March and Character Dressing Up

We will be celebrating World Book Day and our love of reading by dressing as a favourite book character for the day. Your child should come to school in their book character costume and will wear this for the day. Please remember that they still need to be able to play outside at break and lunchtimes. Please can you dress as a character from a book rather than as a Superhero as we will link our costumes to our learning for the day. The children have discussed ideas which are not tricky or expensive; Charlie from ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’; Sophie from the ‘BFG’; Alex Rider from ‘Storm Breaker; Jack from ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’; a farmer from ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’.

Clubs for after half term

Confirmation slips have been returned to the children for bookings after half term.

Please note that due to Parent Teacher Consultations there will be no after school clubs on Wednesday 1st March and Thursday 2nd March.

Helpers needed to join the Cookery Club Team

Please speak to Beth Wheldon if you would like to join the fantastic team of regular cookery club leaders.

Holiday Sewing Club

Mrs Marshall will be running this during half term on Wednesday 22nd February. Please speak to her for more details.

Bags2School Fundraising

These will be collected after half term on Tuesday morning 28th February.

Parking outside school and children’s safety

Thank you to everyone who is careful when pulling up and parking outside school when children are arriving and leaving at the end of the day. I know this is a very busy time and space is limited. Thank you to those people who live in the village and do walk to school – this reduces parking pressure as well as being healthy!

Please do not block the gate to the car park at any time – this is access for emergency vehicles.
