Dear Parents,

Congratulations to our new Reception children

Congratulations to our Reception children who have completed their first full-time week in school. They are all settling in very well and our Year 6 ‘buddies’ are doing a fantastic job.  We welcome them and new parents and carers to our Special Mentions Assembly for the first time this week.

Our Christian value –Friendship

In our worship this week we have continued to explore our ‘Golden Rules’ and our Christian value this half term of Friendship. Your child has a home/school values sheet to take home tonight.

Sports Premium PE Funding and Silver Sports Mark Award

We continue to use our government funded sports premium to enhance the skills of both our children and teachers and improve fitness, participation, health and wellbeing. This half term we are funding work in PE lessons for our Reception children with fundamental skills. For Year 1 and 2 we have multiskills as an after school club. In KS2 we are funding netball in Class 3 and 4 PE lessons and a club for gymnastics, in addition to our school football club. All children have PE with their class teachers also.

We are delighted to have been awarded the Sports Mark Award at Silver level once again this year which recognises our wider participation and inclusion in sport.

Whole School Performance of ‘Pinnochio’ Tuesday 26th September

We are all looking forward to our whole school theatre performance during the afternoon. Following the performance, as we do each year, our Year 5/6 children will take part in a stagecraft workshop led by the actors.

Thank you to Friends of the School for funding this event.

Class 4 Viking  Visit  Tuesday 3rd  October Children in Class 3 have letters about their exciting day living as a Viking. Please complete the consent forms and return to school. Payment can be made by Parentpay.

Annual Consent/Medical forms for visits

Each year we ask you to complete a rolling programme visit form which we refer to throughout the year. For local visits to St Mary’s Church, Bolton-on-Swale and Scorton village we use this as consent. We seek consent for all other visits during the year and use the details on this form for medical and contact information. Each child has now received this form. Please return this to school as soon as possible.

Friends of the School Christmas card fundraising

If you would like to support this – please return your orders to school by Friday 29th September. Cheques payable to ‘Friends of Bolton-on-Swale School’.

Wider Opportunities Music Programme

Class 3 is taking part in this programme once again. This involves specialist music teaching and an opportunity to learn to play the violin or cello. After half term each child will be allocated their own violin or cello for the year, which they may take home to practise with if you wish.

What can I do to support  my child’s learning in school ?

At our Parent Teacher consultations in October we will discuss further your child’s progress and targets with you. You can support your child by:

  • Listening to your child read at home as often as possible and discussing the meaning behind the text, any tricky words
  • Taking time to support their homework activities
  • For children in Y1 upwards, learning their times tables so that by the end of Y4 they know all their tables to x12. We recite tables saying: ‘1 times 2 is 2; 2 times 2 is 4; 3 times 2 is 6. In our maths lessons we explore the meaning behind this but the ability to recall times tables rapidly is an important skill.
