Friday 6th May 2016

Dear Parents,

Year 6 SAT’s Week Monday 9th to Thursday 12th May

Our Year 6 children sit these statutory tests next week so please continue to support them in their preparations for these with homework, spelling lists and maths booklets. Please plan a calm weekend, early nights and good breakfasts. It will be a busy week for everyone in school as extra staff are required to invigilate our different tests. For the four mornings of next week only, Year 5 children will be working in different classes and additional staff, who sometimes work with us in school will be supporting.

Additional Staffing in school

Whilst we have no significant staffing changes planned in school we do have regular additional support and you will meet these staff in school. Mrs Wiseman is working as a Teaching Assistant in Class1; Mrs Moodie is providing some supply teaching cover in Classes 1 and 2; Mrs Rutland provides some additional Teaching Assistant cover; Mrs Wright continues to work as a supply teacher.

Mrs Jones –as you may have heard… Mrs Jones has broken her ankle. Whilst she is still able to teach, there have been some adjustments made to make this possible. She will not be out in the playground at the beginning and end of the day; please speak to another member of staff or come into school/phone or email and she is happy to help. Lessons such as PE will be taken by other teaching staff.

Instrumental Lessons in school

If your child is interested in starting instrumental lessons in school we have places available for flute, guitar, violin, piano and cello from September. Please speak to Mrs Dobson. If you wish to finish lessons please give half a terms notice in writing.

May Half Term Football Coaching with Mike Layfield at Richmond School

Booking forms for this have been sent home and are available from the office.

Friends of the School

Please see the separate newsletter from Friends of the School. Each year Friends of the School raise about £2,000 for school funds and we are hugely grateful for all their support. Please read their newsletter and see what funding plans we have for the forthcoming year.

New diary date – Summer Music Concert Tuesday 28th June 6pm

This concert provides an opportunity for children who have music lessons in school; violin, cello, piano, flute to perform. All children in Class 3 have whole class violin/cello lessons every week with Mrs Jameson and they will be performing as a class. Children who have instrumental lessons outside school are welcome to perform; also children who have regularly attended Choir and Recorders.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any queries.

Yours sincerely,

Nicola Dobson
