Dear Parents,

Whole School trip to Whitby

We were very fortunate with the weather for our whole school trip to Whitby on Wednesday. There was no rain and we enjoyed the healthy sea breeze and wonderful views out to sea from the beach and harbour. We would like to congratulate the children on their excellent behaviour which was commented on by those we met during the day. Classes 1and 2 enjoyed the beach; meeting the lifeguards; their chilly paddle and the ice creams! Class 3 learnt all about the work of the RNLI on a tour of the lifeboat station and about the history of Whitby Abbey and the Church. They counted the 199 steps! Class 4 learnt about fossil formations and rocks from the leader of the Outdoor Education centre at East Barnby. They enjoyed beach combing and a fascinating visit to Whitby Museum with a focus on Captain Cook.

Ripon Cathedral’s Gargoyle Competition

Several of our Class 4 children entered a competition to design a new gargoyle for Ripon Cathedral. There were over 1,000 entries and although we were not the winners we have received a letter and certificate from the Cathedral congratulating us on our creative ideas and artistic skills. Our Year 6 Leaver’s will be visiting Ripon Cathedral on the afternoon of Tuesday 4th July to attend the Diocesan Leaver’s Service.

More details to follow.

Election News in Class 4

Class 4 children have once again been learning about Democracy and have run their own General Election. They also took part in hustings with a Question Time Debate. Our new Prime Minister is Jack Tranmer, who is leader of the Environmental Helpers.

Interestingly, he has had to form a coalition with the Equalisers; a party promoting equal opportunities for all, in order to secure an overall majority.
