Friday 9th September 2016
A very warm welcome back to a new term at school. We are welcoming 14 new children into our Reception Year, and 5 children into other year groups; we are delighted with how well they have already settled. Our Year 6 children are working hard to make our Reception children feel especially welcome and are supporting them in their ‘buddy’ role. We look forward to working with all our new families.
Our School Ethos and Values – ‘Developing the Whole Child’
As a Church of England Aided School our Christian values are very important to our school community and underpin how we behave towards one another.
This half term we are focussing on the Christian value of ‘ Respect’. Each week we will share with you in Special Mentions how we have been trying to put this into action!
Open 2 All Service St Mary’s Church , Sunday 11th September 3pm
Rev Yvonne invites everyone to this child friendly service, with activities for children and refreshments afterwards. We will be praying especially for our new school year.
Staff in school
In addition to our regular teachers and teaching assistants, Mrs Moodie and Mrs Wright provide regular supply cover. Our PE lessons and sports clubs are supported by Richmond Secondary School staff and specialist sports coaches. Class music lessons and string and piano teaching are delivered by Mrs Jameson who is also a fully qualified primary school teacher. Mr Waters from North Yorkshire Music Service teaches flute.
Special Mentions Assembly and Newsletter
We have Special Mentions Assembly at 3pm every Friday and all parents/carers are welcome to join us for this in the school hall. It is an opportunity to hear more about what your child has been learning and an opportunity to celebrate their achievements and share in the success of others. Children may bring in certificates and awards achieved outside school to share with us. This newsletter is sent out every Friday. If you would like to receive it by email please send an email to the admin address above.
Class letters and topic information
All the children have class letters from their teachers telling you more about the topics they will be studying this term. Homework, across school will go home on a Friday to be returned the following Wednesday. This will start next Friday 18th September.
As a school we are continuing to subscribe to an excellent online learning resource, ESPRESSO. Children can access this in school. To access from home:
www.espresso.co.uk/ student23945 bolton
This password and login is the same for everyone as this a learning resource not a personalised learning platform.
PE Kits and naming clothes
A reminder that all children need a PE kit in school each day. Please ensure your child has a plain white t shirt for PE lessons. They may choose to wear a football strip for football club. Please name all your child’s clothes and footwear.
Parent pay and School lunches
If your child has moved into Year 3 you will now need to pay for their lunches, either online with Parent pay or via cheque/cash to the office, £5.50 per week. The government continues to fund lunches for infant children (until end of Y2).
If you want to change your lunch arrangements the kitchen/office needs a week’s notice as fresh food is ordered in advance. Please speak to the office if you think your child may qualify for free school lunches. Parent pay accounts must stay in credit.
Milk and Snacks
Children in Classes 1 and 2 receive free fruit each day, funded nationally. Children under 5 receive free milk but you must register with the Cool Milk scheme online to access this. Other children in school may also have milk daily at a small cost through Cool Milk. Register online at www.coolmilk.com All children have access to water fountains; they may bring water bottles and healthy snacks for break times (fresh, dried fruit, cereal bars).Fruity Friday 30p The children run a healthy fruit stall each Friday where for 30p all children can buy a selection of fruit.
Peanut Allergies We do have children in school with peanut allergies. Please do not send your child to school with peanut butter in sandwiches or snacks.
