Friday 18th September 2015

Dear Parents,

Reception children settling well
Congratulations to our Reception children who are settling very well. We look forward to welcoming them for full days next week. On Friday 25th September there will a drop in coffee morning for Reception parents/carers in the hall from 9.00am to 10.30am. This is a good opportunity to meet other parents/carers and to chat informally to Mrs Reynolds and Mrs Parr. We hope to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support also.

Our new Reflection Garden and Mosaic Art Work
Thank you to Friends of the School and all parents who supported fund raising events in school last year. We now have a beautiful new garden which the children have had a hand in designing. We also received contributions from community funding through Bettys and The Henry Jenkins Trust. The Green Frog Garden Shop are working with the children to advise on planting and maintenance.

Assessment for our 4th Eco Green Flag is next Thursday 24th September.

We will be doing an extra tidy of our School Grounds after school next Tuesday 22nd September. Please join us with your child if you can help.

Dates for term and school year
A full list of term dates for the academic year was sent home last week. There was also a diary dates list for this term which highlights key events, performances etc. You can also find these on our website.

Parental Class Assembly
Each class has their own assembly this term on Thursday morning at 9.30am. Parents, relatives, carers of children in that class are invited to this. It is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about your child’s learning. Dates for each class are on the diary list.

Parent Teacher Consultations
There are dates on the diary list for these. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions or queries at any time. You can also contact the office by phone or email or use your child’s diary/planner to communicate.

School Clubs
Club booking confirmation slips have been sent out. Our school staff  run clubs voluntarily and we would really appreciate parental help with gardening club in particular. Please speak to Mrs Jones. All Clubs start next week.

PE Kits and Outdoor Clothes for changing weather
A reminder that all children need a PE kit in school each day as we establish timetables and routines. A plain white t shirt should be worn for PE. In addition, all children need a waterproof coat and a change of shoes to go on the field (trainers or wellies are ideal). If children want to play football on the field as the weather changes they need to bring track suit trousers they can easily put on over their school clothes.

Homework routines
A reminder that homework is usually sent home on a Friday to be returned on Wednesday. This is in addition to their reading books. Individual classes will have their own routines for testing spellings – see the class newsletters sent home last week.

Classes 3 and 4 have a big maths focus on rapid recall of times tables to x12.

Any queries, please ask.

Online learning
As a school we are continuing to subscribe to an excellent online learning resource, ESPRESSO. Children can access this in school. To access from home:

This password and login is the same for everyone as this a learning resource not a personalised learning platform.

Milk and Snacks
Children in Classes 1 and 2 receive free fruit each day, funded nationally. Children under 5 receive free milk but you must register with the Cool Milk scheme online to access this. Other children in school may also have milk daily at a small cost through Cool Milk. Register online at

All children have access to water fountains; they may bring water bottles and healthy snacks for break times (fresh, dried fruit, cereal bars).

Fruity Friday 30p The children run a healthy fruit stall each Friday where for 30p all children can buy a selection of fruit. The melon and grapes are particularly popular!

Peanut Allergies We do have children in school with peanut allergies. Please do not send your child to school with peanut butter in sandwiches or snacks.

Updating of contact details, change of address
Finally, if your contact details have changed please request an update form from the school office. It is important that your details are up to date. If your child’s collection arrangements change in any way please notify us in writing.

If you would like your child to walk home without an adult please notify us in writing.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any queries.

Yours sincerely,

Nicola Dobson
