CEOP Internet Safety

Friday 25th September 2015

Dear Parents,

Congratulations to our new Reception children
Congratulations to our Reception children who have completed their first full-time week in school. They are all settling in very well and our Year 6 ‘buddies’ are doing a fantastic job.

Sports Premium PE Funding and Silver Sports Mark Award
We continue to use our government funded sports premium to enhance the skills of both our children and teachers and improve fitness, participation, health and wellbeing. This half term we are funding work in KS1 PE lessons with multiskills and an after school club. In KS2 we are funding tag Rugby in KS2 PE lessons and clubs for hockey, netball and football.

We are delighted to have been awarded the Sports Mark Award at Silver level this year.

Congratulations to our Y5/6 Football Team
In our first sporting outing of the new school year we played in the Richmond area tournament and finished in 3rd place.

Class 3 Viking Visit Tuesday 6th October
Children in Class 3 have received information on their exciting day living as a Viking. Please complete the consent forms and return to school.

Year 6 Residential Visit to Marrick Priory
Further details of departure times have been sent home with the children today.

Wider Opportunities Music Programme
Class 3 is taking part in this programme once again. This involves specialist music teaching and an opportunity to learn to play the violin or cello.

Congratulations to everyone on our 4th Eco Green Flag
Many thanks to all our children and parents who worked so hard to help us prepare for our Eco Green Flag Assessment. The assessor was very impressed with all the work the children do to care for their school and grounds, maintain a healthy lifestyle and show concern for our environment both locally and globally. We found out today that we have been awarded our 4th Green Flag; one of very few schools in the country to have achieved this!

A message from our Eco Team
‘We are so excited that our garden plans have become a reality. Friends of the School are also helping to fund a new playground bin following the results of our litter picking surveys. We are currently designing our own bins so watch this space for the winning design for our bin. Finally, please look on our Eco board for top tips on how to feed birds.’

What can I do to support  my child’s learning in school ?
At our Parent Teacher consultations in October we will discuss further your child’s progress and targets with you. You can support your child by:

Listening to your child read at home as often as possible and discussing the meaning behind the text, any tricky words
Taking time to support their homework activities
For children in Y2 upwards, learning their times tables so that by the end of Y4 they know all their tables to x12

Safety in the playground
The children have been asked to wheel their bikes and scooters out of the playground gate to keep everyone safe at collection times.

Friends of the School AGM and planning meeting Monday 5th Ocotber 8pm in school
Please make this a priority for attending; there are refreshments and it is very sociable and a great way for new parents of Reception children to meet others. The strength of Friends of the School is a real indication of the commitment and strength of our school community. We need parents to join the committee so that planning of events can be shared and manageable; it is great that others will come on board and help ‘on the day’ but without a committee there will be no events to support.

In a typical year Friends of the School provide wonderfully sociable events and a range of activities which our children really value and enjoy. Last year these included: soup and refreshments after Harvest; coffee for new Reception parents; school discos, refreshments and raffle at our Christmas and Summer school productions; a theatre production of ‘The Hobbit’ ; presents for Santa to deliver; an Easter egg tombola at our egg rolling and prizes for our Easter activities; Christmas cards designed by your child and most recently a fantastic Summer Fair.

In addition to being social events, Friends of the School also raise about £3,000 each year to support our children. This helped to fund our new Reflection Garden and our forthcoming production of ‘Oliver Twist’

Scorton Methodist Church Harvest Festival Sunday 27th September at 10,30am
