Dear Parents,

Welcome back to the summer term. We are looking forward to better weather, outdoor learning, trips and visits. We have lots of exciting activities planned. Letters have gone home today from each class outlining the topics and routines.

Diary dates for the term

A full list of diary dates for key events in the summer term went home before the holidays. All key dates are in the Calendar on our website. Paper copies are available from the office.

Communicating with parents

In addition to sending home our newsletters and termly dates in paper form they are also on our school website and are emailed to parents from the office. Please give your email address to the office if you would like this to happen.

Clubs for this half term

As this is a short half term, Clubs have started again this week and children have already received their confirmation slips. Clubs which are oversubscribed will rotate next half term and children will be placed on a waiting list.

Sports Premium funding for the summer term

Our Sports Premium funding this term will be supporting after school clubs after summer half term; tennis and athletics. In curriculum time it is supporting football for Classes 1 and 2 and athletics for Classes 3 and 4.  It is also supporting a lunchtime cricket club open to all. All of this is in addition to sports clubs run by our own staff; rounders and cricket and PE in lesson times.

School Swimming

All children in Y1 upwards have made an excellent start this week with their swimming at Catterick for a course of 10 lessons this term.

Year 6 SAT’s Week Monday 8th to Thursday 11th May

Our Year 6 children sit their tests during this week so please continue to support them in their preparations for these with homework activities.

Instrumental Lessons in school

Flute lessons with Mr Waters and Violin, cello and piano lessons with Mrs Jameson started this week. All children in Class 3 continue to receive whole class violin/cello lessons with Mrs Jameson this term and will again in September 17. If your child is interested in starting instrumental lessons in a group/ individual basis from September please discuss this with Mrs Dobson or Mrs Newton in the office.

School uniform and PE kit reminders for the summer term

A reminder to name all items of clothing for the summer term. As the weather improves girls may wear blue gingham checked summer dresses and children may wear grey or black shorts.

We will aim to do our PE lessons outside so all children need a full kit; black shorts and track suit trousers (separate from those used at playtime), plain white t shirt, trainers for outside PE. The children will still need a change of indoor shoes.

Helpers needed to join the Cookery Club Team Please speak to Beth Wheldon if you would like to join the fantastic team of regular cookery club leaders.

Friends of the School – Tesco ‘Bags of Help’ fundraising success!

Now we need your support

The redevelopment of our outdoor classroom for Classes 1 and 2 has been shortlisted to go to public vote in the Catterick Tesco store during May and June. Please encourage all your family, friends and neighbours to vote for our school project with their tokens and help us to raise more money for our school.

All our children will ultimately benefit as money from this fundraising releases other money in our budget to pay for resources which benefit everyone. Our next target will be to continue to update our IT; laptops and other devices for all children.

Sainsbury’s voucher deadline

Collecting for these finishes on 2nd May. Please bring the last of our vouchers into school. We use these to fund playground toys and our fun ‘Jazz workshop’ after SATs.

Good Quality 2nd hand school uniform

Friends of the School will be selling this following Special Mentions next Friday 5th May.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any queries.

Yours sincerely,

Nicola Dobson
