Dear Parents,

Congratulations to Class 4 on their excellent class assembly

We all enjoyed the insight into learning in Class 4 shared in their class assembly yesterday; the musical legend of the drummer boy of Richmond and atmospheric stories; science and gravity with Isaac Newton; art work inspired by Lucy Pittaway; French songs and pirate descriptions; reflections on the plight of refugees and the dilemmas of the Guy Fawkes story.

Academy update

Before the summer we took part in a consultation with other Church Schools. Following the outcome of this process the governors met this week and have made the decision that our school will not be converting to become an Academy. They judge that this is in the best interests of children in our school.

Remembrance Sunday –today we had an age appropriate act of remembrance. Each class made their own poppy wreath and Harvey Wilkinson played ‘The Last Post’ on his trumpet.

Ripon Cathedral Annual Service for service pupils – our KS2 service pupils are attending the HMS Heroes Service in Ripon Cathedral today.

Children in Need Friday 17th November – the School Council have asked that we have this as a non-uniform day. Donations of £1 to the charity can be made if you wish. There are also Pudsey Bear items on sale in school. £1 to £2.50.

Christmas Shoebox Appeal – we are once again supporting this. Leaflets went home last week. We also welcome contributions of items towards making up shoe box as a class in school. We need to complete these by the morning of Friday 17th November.

Staffing update

Mr Ramsbottom will now be absent from school until Monday 27th November. During this time Class 3 will continue to be taught by Mrs Wright who teaches regularly in Class 3. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any queries.

Healthy Teeth

We are working with the dental service to take part in their supervised in- school tooth brushing scheme for Classes 1 and 2. At 3pm on Monday 20th November the dental service will host a parents meeting for Classes 1 and 2 to explain how this scheme operates. Please join us for 20 minutes if you can.

Working in Partnership with Durham University

We work in partnership with Durham University to provide placements for students training to teach. They are fully supervised and work closely alongside the class teacher. We currently have students in Class 1 on Thursday and Class 2 on Tuesday.

November date reminders:

Class 2 Parental Assembly – Thursday 16th November 9.30am.

Tuesday morning 12th December – flu vaccination (nasal spray) for children who have opted for this.

Growing Healthy NHS Team

Reception and Y6 children have letters sent home tonight regarding height and weight checks. Please read these carefully. You need to contact the team if you want to opt out of these checks.
