Class 3 were Vikings for the day!

Class 3 had a wonderful day on Tuesday living in their Viking village. Wearing Viking clothes and defending their village from Saxon attack were highlights. They lived as Viking families in their huts; making clay lamps and grinding corn to make bread. They collected wood for the fires; farmed the land and listened to a Viking saga in the long house.

Danelaw Viking DVD Details are being sent home about this. Please do not feel it is necessary to purchase this. School will receive a free copy and we will watch it with the children in class. If you would like to order a copy please do so by half term and send a cheque made payable to: ‘Bolton-on-Swale School Fund’.

Year 6 at Marrick Priory

Our Y6 children have had a great residential week with lots of outdoor adventurous activities to try; canoeing, abseiling, high and low ropes, beck scrambling, archery, orienteering and problem solving and team building games. We look forward to hearing more when they return this afternoon.

Excellent behaviour and good manners

It is always a pleasure to take our children out of school and we are proud of their good manners and responsible behaviour. Well done!

Year 5

A special well done to Year 5 this week who have taken on many of Y6’s responsibilities while they have been on residential. They have enjoyed their creative week of Art, DT, Science and Music on the theme of ‘Sound and Silence’ and have explored ‘Extreme Weather’ and the Science behind a tornado.

Annual Consent/Medical forms for visits

Each year we ask you to complete a rolling programme visit form which we refer to throughout the year. We use the details on this form for medical and contact information. Each child has now received this form. Please return this to school as soon as possible.

Book Fair in School

We are hosting a Book fair in school for the next week. The Fair will be open in the hall after school today and before and after school next Monday to Thursday. It will open for the last time on Thursday 12th October after school. We receive commission on the sale of these books which supports updates to our class and school library.

Individual School Photographs Friday 13th October

Tempest School Photography will take individual photographs of each child in school next Friday morning. Children who have siblings in school will also be photographed together. If you have a younger sibling and would like them to be included these photos will be taken before school from 8.30am in the school hall. You may then choose to buy these photos but they are not otherwise circulated.

Clothing in school

As the weather changes children need to bring waterproof trousers/tracksuit trousers to cover their school clothes and wellies or trainers if they wish to go on the field at playtimes. There are still lots of activities to play with if they remain on the playground. Please name all clothing.

Friends of the School AGM Tuesday 17th October 6pm in school  Please make this a priority for attending; there are refreshments and it is very sociable and a great way for new parents of Reception children to meet others. The strength of Friends of the School is a real indication of the commitment and strength of our school community. We need parents to join the committee so that planning of events can be shared and manageable; it is great that others will come on board and help ‘on the day’ but without a committee there will be no events to support.

Please consider standing for a post on the committee. Nomination forms were sent home last week; copies are available from the office and FoS noticeboard. Closing date for nominations is Tuesday 10th October.
