CEOP Internet Safety

Friday 11th September 2015

Dear Parents,

Welcome back
A very warm welcome back to a new term at school. The children have returned to school looking very smart and we have enjoyed hearing about their holiday experiences! We are welcoming 15 new children into our Reception Year and are delighted with how well they have already settled. Our Year 6 children are working hard to make them feel especially welcome and supporting them in their ‘buddy’ role.

Staff in school
In addition to our regular teachers and teaching assistants, Mrs Wright is an experienced teacher who will continue to work with different classes and groups across the school. Our PE lessons and sports clubs are supported by Richmond Secondary School staff and specialist sports coaches. Class music lessons and string instrumental teaching is delivered by Mrs Jameson who is also a fully qualified primary school teacher. We welcome a new flute teacher, Mr Waters from North Yorkshire Music Service to school this year.

Special Mentions Assembly  and  Newsletter
We have Special Mentions Assembly at 3pm every Friday and all parents/carers are welcome to join us for this in the school hall. It is an opportunity to hear more about what your child has been learning and an opportunity to celebrate their achievements and share in the success of others. Children may bring in certificates and awards achieved outside school to share with us.

This newsletter is sent out every Friday. If you would like to receive this newsletter by email please complete the slip at the end of this letter.

 Class letters and topic information
All the children have class letters from their teachers telling you more about the topics they will be studying this term. Homework across school will go home on a Friday to be returned the following Wednesday.

Online learning
As a school we are continuing to subscribe to an excellent online learning resource, ESPRESSO. Children can access this in school. To access from home:

This password and login is the same for everyone as this a learning resource not a personalised learning platform.

PE Kits and naming clothes
A reminder that all children need a PE kit in school each day as we establish timetables and routines. Please ensure your child has a plain white t shirt for PE lessons. They may choose to wear a football strip for football club.

Please name all your child’s clothes, PE kit, wellingtons, plimsolls and coats.

Parent pay and School lunches
If your child has moved into Year 3 you will now need to pay for their lunches, either online with Parent pay or via cheque/cash to the office, £5.50 per week. The government continues to fund lunches for infant children (until end of Y2).

If you want to change your lunch arrangements the kitchen/office needs a week’s notice as fresh food is ordered in advance. Please speak to the office if you think your child may qualify for free school lunches.

Milk and Snacks
Children in Classes 1 and 2 receive free fruit each day, funded nationally. Children under 5 receive free milk but you must register with the Cool Milk scheme online to access this. Other children in school may also have milk daily at a small cost through Cool Milk. Register online at www.coolmilk.com

All children have access to water fountains; they may bring water bottles and healthy snacks for break times (fresh, dried fruit, cereal bars).

Fruity Friday 30p The children run a healthy fruit stall each Friday where for 30p all children can buy a selection of fruit. The melon and grapes are particularly popular!

Peanut Allergies We do have children in school with peanut allergies. Please do not send your child to school with peanut butter in sandwiches or snacks.

Updating of contact details, change of address

Finally, if your contact details have changed please request an update form from the school office. It is important that your details are up to date. If your child’s collection arrangements change in any way please notify us in writing.

If you would like your child to walk home without an adult please notify us in writing.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any queries.

Yours sincerely,
Nicola Dobson
Headteacher
